Importance of Towing Mirrors

Types of Towing Mirrors
Truck Champ offers manual towing mirrors and electric telescopic
power towing mirrors. They are adjustable and extendable, and available
in heating (eliminating frost) and non-heating models. These towing
mirrors fold, either manually or electronically, when you need to steer
into tight spaces or upon impact. They will fit either side of your
truck or SUV. We also have towing mirrors with LED lights that
synchronize to your turn signal. Universal towing mirrors mount to stock
side-view mirrors to provide an even wider field of vision and superior
maneuvering.
Replacing the Dreaded Blind Spot with Peace of Mind
When considering the benefits of having the correct towing mirror for
your vehicle, nothing is more important than SAFETY or ACCIDENT
PREVENTION − for you, your family and friends, and others on the road.
As truck or SUV operators in our own driveways, and on the highways, we
are all critically concerned about whether people, objects, or other
vehicles behind and to the side of us are visible. Furthermore, the
right towing mirror ensures a safe and clear line of sight when passing
another vehicle or changing lanes.
Of utmost concern is the safety of children, as
SUVs and trucks get taller, and the blind spots on these vehicles are
wider. According to Janette Fennell, of the advocacy group "Kids and Cars", "...in
the last four years between 100-150 of the 2,500 children backed over
each year are killed. The Centers for Disease Control estimates that
between 2001-2003 almost 7,500 children were treated in emergency rooms
for injuries caused by backover accidents." Because you cannot
avoid hitting what you cannot see, the driver must take every safety
precaution to ensure the no one, or no vehicle, is in the blind spot.
According to the U.S. Department of Transportation's NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), ".
. . not all trailers require the tow vehicle to be equipped with
extended side-view mirrors. But if you are towing a trailer that is
wider than your tow vehicle, you will need extended side-view mirrors to
see rear- and side-approaching traffic."
Additional benefits to having good towing mirrors include:
- Avoiding the high monetary costs of collisions and the subsequent increase in insurance rates
- Replacing an old or damaged mirror that is unsafe, unattractive, and not getting the job done
- Upgrading from low quality mirrors that are easily damaged or unsightly
- Taking advantage of the new aerodynamic mirrors that look great and eliminate vibrations and wind whistle
- Having the ability to adjust the mirror to your maximum viewing angle
- Knowing that you are not attaching a towing mirror with cheap extenders that will come loose or even fall off
